What’s in your smoothie?
When I sat down for a conversation with Lizette Andrén and Samantha Lööw, Sales and Marketing Managers at Swedish Algae Factory, it was clear that they’re quite used to explaining what’s so special about its commercial product used in beauty and personal care products, Algica.
— Everybody thinks that all algae are the same thing, Lööw shared — ’oh, I drink that every morning in my smoothie.’
There are in fact thousands of different species of algae and countless articles have already described the benefits which can explain why it’s now everywhere in skincare. In 2022, Cosmetics Design USA has reported, Mintel’s GNPD (Global New Product Database) 22.2% of new skincare product launches in the US included chlorella or spirulina in their INCI. Four years before, the equivalent number was 13.2%.
Algica has recently been verified as a microbiome-friendly product. This week, Julie Chamoun Bruusgaard, La Roche Posay’s Medical Communication Manager in our region, explains what she’s curious about in microbiome science.
— The microbiome, as one insightful scientist once said, will be treated as an organ on its own one day — I just hope I will be able to witness it, she tells us.
Do you think she will?
My favourite headline from last week was short and sweet: Gen AI is so hot right now. More on that in this week’s World View. In his weekly Observations column, our editor-in-chief Konrad Olsson shares Three AI insights from — the highly successful — Beauty Innovation Talks in Copenhagen last week.
Until next week, enjoy!
